Get your REAL ID
At the Washington Department of Transportation (Washington DOT), you can easily obtain your REAL ID. All that is required is to stop by the nearest Driver’s License Office and provide the necessary documents such as a valid form of identification, proof of residency, or citizenship.

What to bring to my appointment at Washington DOT
- Your license
You will need to bring your valid driver’s license with you to your appointment. If you do not have a valid driver’s license, you will not be able to obtain a Washington State ID card. - Proof of residency
You will need to bring proof of residency in the form of a utility bill, lease, or mortgage statement. This document must be dated within the last 60 days and show your name and address. - Social Security card or passport
You will need to bring your Social Security card or passport as proof of your identity. - Two forms of payment
You will need to bring two forms of payment with you to your appointment. Washington DOT accepts cash, check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover. - Appointment confirmation
You will need to bring your appointment confirmation with you to your appointment. This can be printed out from the website or emailed to you from the office. - License plate number
You will need to provide the license plate number of the vehicle that you wish to register. - Vehicle registration certificate
If you are registering a vehicle for the first time in Washington, you will need to provide the vehicle registration certificate from your previous state. - emissions test results (if applicable)
If your vehicle is subject to an emissions test, you will need to bring the results of the test with you to your appointment. Vehicles that are required to have an emissions test include gasoline-powered vehicles that are model year 1975 or newer and diesel-powered vehicles that are model year 1997 or newer.
