What to bring to my appointment at Virginia DMV
- A valid form of identification. This could be a driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID card.
- Proof of residency in Virginia. This could be a utility bill, lease agreement, or mortgage statement.
- Your current vehicle registration, if you are renewing your registration.
- The appropriate fees for your transaction. Accepted forms of payment include cash, check, money order, and credit/debit card.
- If you are changing your address, you will need to complete a Change of Address form and submit it to the DMV.
- If you are changing your name, you will need to provide proof of your name change, such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree.
- If you are applying for a driver’s license or ID card for the first time, you will need to provide proof of your identity, residency, and Social Security number. Acceptable documents include a birth certificate, passport, Social Security card, and pay stubs.
- If you are applying for a commercial driver’s license (CDL), you will need to provide additional documentation, such as a medical certificate and driving record.
- If you are renewing your driver’s license or ID card and have not received a renewal notice from the DMV, you will need to bring two forms of identification, one of which must be photo identification
