Oregon DMV Fees Increasing in 2024, Online Services Expanding

The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is set to increase several fees starting January 1, 2024, as a result of legislation passed this year (House Bill 2100). The fee hikes are designed to help the DMV recover costs and avoid service reductions.Some of the key fee changes include:

• Driving skills tests increasing from $9 to $45
• Original commercial driver’s license (CDL) going from $75 to $160
• Class C license renewal (non-commercial) rising from $40 to $54

The DMV says these increases are necessary to keep fees in line with the actual costs of providing services, as most DMV fee hikes over the past 20 years have gone to transportation projects rather than DMV operating costs.To save time and money, the DMV is encouraging more Oregonians to use its online services at DMV2U.Oregon.gov.

The agency has added over two dozen online transactions in the past three years.However, the DMV acknowledges these fee increases alone are not enough to erase the funding gap, and long-term solutions are still needed.
