    The Michigan Secretary of State provides a variety of services to residents of the state. These include issuing driver’s licenses, registering vehicles, and handling the paperwork associated with buying and selling cars.

    You can schedule an appointment online for a driver license or Real ID by visiting the Michigan Secretary of State website. Appointments are available at select offices statewide. When scheduling, you will need to provide:

    -Your driver license number

    -The last four digits of your Social Security number

    -Your date of birth

    -An email address

    -A credit or debit card to pay the driver license application fee

    -An appointment confirmation number

    If you do not have a driver license, you will need to provide proof of identification, residency, and Social Security number. For a complete list of acceptable documents, please visit the Michigan Secretary of State website.

    When you arrive for your appointment, you will need to present:

    -Your driver license or Real ID

    -Your appointment confirmation number

    -Proof of identification

    -Proof of residency

    -Proof of Social Security number, if you do not have a driver

    license

    -The driver license application fee

    Steps to request an appointment at Michigan SOS

    1. Go to the Michigan SOS website
      The first step is to go to the Michigan SOS website and click on the “Request an Appointment” link.
    2. Enter your information
      You will then be asked to enter your name, email address, and phone number.
    3. Choose a location
      Next, you will need to choose a location for your appointment. There are four locations to choose from: Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Marquette.
    4. Choose a date and time
      Once you have chosen a location, you will need to choose a date and time for your appointment. Appointments are available Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm.
    5. Confirm your appointment
      The final step is to confirm your appointment by clicking on the “Confirm Appointment” button.

    Get your REAL ID at Michigan SOS

    From May 3, 2023, a new federal law will come into effect that’ll necessitate you to have a REAL ID for internal flights or visiting federal buildings.
